    Course Title: Commercial Art - KC1080 School: Mountain View High School Term: 2022 - 2023 UC/CSU requirement: F-Visual & performing arts , 10 Credits Textbook and/or other learning resources: Exploring Visual Design, The Elements and Principles, Davis Publications, Inc. and selected in class and online resources. Course Description: Commercial Art class prepares students for high-skill, high-wage jobs in the industry sector pathway of Design, Visual, and Media Arts. Curriculum is based on the California Career Technical Education (CTE) - Arts, Media, and Entertainment (AME) sector standards and is aligned with the 2019 California Arts Standards. Successful completion of this class satisfies MVHS Arts graduation requirements and university A-G requirements. During the two semester class, students complete standards-aligned intermediate and advanced level coursework in Graphic Design, Animation, Visual and Commercial Art, and Media Arts. The CTE Industry sector Arts, Media, and Entertainment curriculum relies on cross-disciplinary interaction and is largely project-based, requiring both independent work and interdependent management skills. Success in this course involves broad and in-depth academic and technical learning as well as cultivating 21-century skills such as flexibility, problem-solving abilities, and interpersonal skills. Student Learning Outcomes: CTE.AME.A.1.0 Students will be able to demonstrate ability to reorganize and integrate visual art elements across digital media and design applications. CTE.AME.A.2.0 Students will be able to apply artistic skills and processes to solve a variety of industry-relevant problems in a variety of traditional and electronic media. CTE.AME.A.3.0 Students will be able to analyze and assess the impact of history and culture on the development of professional arts and media products. CTE.AME.A.4.0 Students will be able to analyze, assess, and identify effectiveness of artistic products based on elements of art, the principles of design, and professional industry standards. CTE.AME.A.5.0 Students will be able to identify essential industry competencies, explore commercial applications and develop a career specific personal plan. CTE.AME.A.6.0 Students will be able to analyze characteristics of subgenres (e.g., satire, parody, allegory, pastoral) that are used in poetry, prose, plays, novels, short stories, essays, and other basic genres. CTE.AME.A.7.0 Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the elements of discourse (e.g., purpose, speaker, audience, form) when completing narrative, expository, persuasive, or descriptive writing assignments. CTE.AME.A.8.0 Students will be able to understand the key technical and technological requirements applicable to various segments of the Media and Design Arts Pathway.

    Mountain View High School BC2210 Publication Design CTE Industry Sector: Manufacturing and Product Development Industry Sector Pathway: Graphic Production Technologies Overview Publication Design class provides students with an understanding of printing and manufacturing processes and systems common to careers in the graphic arts and printing technology industries. The class focuses on the production of the school annual Olympiad and includes topics such as the principles of design composition, graphic design and layout, typography, image generation and file preparation, photography, digital imaging, prepress preparation, and printing technologies.This class may be taken for four years as students become editors. Curriculum is based on the California Career Technical Education (CTE) - Manufacturing and Product Development Industry Sector Standards (pathway: Graphic Production Technologies) and is aligned with the 2019 California Arts Standards. Successful completion of this class satisfies MVHS graduation requirements and university A-G requirements. Publication Design curriculum relies on cross-disciplinary interaction and is largely project-based, requiring independent work and interdependent management skills. Success in this class requires in-depth academic and time management skills and will cultivate twenty-first-century skill assets, such as flexibility, problem-solving abilities, and interpersonal skills.
