  • Commercial Art

    Course Title: Commercial Art - KC1080 School: Mountain View High School Term: 2022 - 2023 UC/CSU requirement: F-Visual & performing arts , 10 Credits Textbook and/or other learning resources: Exploring Visual Design, The Elements and Principles, Davis Publications, Inc. and selected in class and online resources. Course Description: Commercial Art class prepares students for high-skill, high-wage jobs in the industry sector pathway of Design, Visual, and Media Arts. Curriculum is based on the California Career Technical Education (CTE) - Arts, Media, and Entertainment (AME) sector standards and is aligned with the 2019 California Arts Standards. Successful completion of this class satisfies MVHS Arts graduation requirements and university A-G requirements. During the two semester class, students complete standards-aligned intermediate and advanced level coursework in Graphic Design, Animation, Visual and Commercial Art, and Media Arts. The CTE Industry sector Arts, Media, and Entertainment curriculum relies on cross-disciplinary interaction and is largely project-based, requiring both independent work and interdependent management skills. Success in this course involves broad and in-depth academic and technical learning as well as cultivating 21-century skills such as flexibility, problem-solving abilities, and interpersonal skills. Student Learning Outcomes: CTE.AME.A.1.0 Students will be able to demonstrate ability to reorganize and integrate visual art elements across digital media and design applications. CTE.AME.A.2.0 Students will be able to apply artistic skills and processes to solve a variety of industry-relevant problems in a variety of traditional and electronic media. CTE.AME.A.3.0 Students will be able to analyze and assess the impact of history and culture on the development of professional arts and media products. CTE.AME.A.4.0 Students will be able to analyze, assess, and identify effectiveness of artistic products based on elements of art, the principles of design, and professional industry standards. CTE.AME.A.5.0 Students will be able to identify essential industry competencies, explore commercial applications and develop a career specific personal plan. CTE.AME.A.6.0 Students will be able to analyze characteristics of subgenres (e.g., satire, parody, allegory, pastoral) that are used in poetry, prose, plays, novels, short stories, essays, and other basic genres. CTE.AME.A.7.0 Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the elements of discourse (e.g., purpose, speaker, audience, form) when completing narrative, expository, persuasive, or descriptive writing assignments. CTE.AME.A.8.0 Students will be able to understand the key technical and technological requirements applicable to various segments of the Media and Design Arts Pathway.

    Mountain View High School BC2210 Publication Design CTE Industry Sector: Manufacturing and Product Development Industry Sector Pathway: Graphic Production Technologies Overview Publication Design class provides students with an understanding of printing and manufacturing processes and systems common to careers in the graphic arts and printing technology industries. The class focuses on the production of the school annual Olympiad and includes topics such as the principles of design composition, graphic design and layout, typography, image generation and file preparation, photography, digital imaging, prepress preparation, and printing technologies.This class may be taken for four years as students become editors. Curriculum is based on the California Career Technical Education (CTE) - Manufacturing and Product Development Industry Sector Standards (pathway: Graphic Production Technologies) and is aligned with the 2019 California Arts Standards. Successful completion of this class satisfies MVHS graduation requirements and university A-G requirements. Publication Design curriculum relies on cross-disciplinary interaction and is largely project-based, requiring independent work and interdependent management skills. Success in this class requires in-depth academic and time management skills and will cultivate twenty-first-century skill assets, such as flexibility, problem-solving abilities, and interpersonal skills.

    Course Title: Digital Art - IC1230 School: Mountain View High School Term: 2022 - 2023 UC/CSU requirement: F-Visual & performing arts , 10 Credits Course Description: Digital Art class enables students to achieve digital arts literacy. Digital Art is a distinct, stand-alone arts discipline, whose basic categories include the following areas: photography, imaging, sound, animation, video, web design, graphic design, virtual design, interactive design, as well as their combinations and emerging forms, such as multimedia, computer graphic imagery (CGI), and virtual reality (VR). Digital art is rooted in the newest category of 2019 California Arts Standards - Media Arts and is aligned with California Career Technical Education (CTE) - Arts, Media, and Entertainment (AME) sector standards. Successful completion of this class satisfies MVHS Arts graduation requirements and university A-G requirements. Literacy in digital arts is broad, diverse, and addresses creative, conceptual, and technical competencies that exist globally. During the two semester class, students complete standards aligned project-based, cross-curricular projects utilizing Multimedia Communication, Interdisciplinary Integration, Design Thinking, and Digital Literacies. Student Learning Outcomes: Prof.MA:Cr1 Students will be able to use identified generative methods to formulate multiple ideas, develop artistic goals, and problem solve in digital arts creation processes. Prof.MA:Cr2 Students will be able to apply aesthetic criteria in developing, and refining artistic ideas, plans, prototypes, and production processes for digital arts productions. Adv.MA:Cr3a Students will be able to synthesize content, processes, and components to express compelling purpose, story, emotion, or ideas in complex digital arts productions. Adv.MA:Cr3b Students will be able to intentionally and consistently refine and elaborate elements and components to form impactful expressions in digital artworks. Prof.MA:Pr4 Students will be able to integrate various arts, digital arts forms, and content into unified digital arts productions. Prof.MA:Pr5a Students will be able to demonstrate progression in artistic, design, technical, and soft skills. Prof.MA:Pr5b Students will be able to develop and refine a range of creative and innovative abilities within digital arts productions. Prof.MA:Pr6 Students will be able to design the presentation of digital artworks, considering the relationships of formats and contexts, and desired outcomes. Prof.MA:Re7a Students will be able to analyze and describe the qualities of relationships between the components, content, and intentions of various digital artworks. Prof.MA:Re7b Students will be able to analyze how a variety of digital artworks manage audience experience and create intention through multimodal perception. Prof.MA:Re8 Students will be able to analyze the intent, meanings, and reception of a variety of digital artworks, focusing on personal and cultural contexts. Prof.MA:Re9 Students will be able to evaluate digital art works and production processes at decisive stages, using identified criteria, and considering context and artistic goals. Prof.MA:Cn10a Students will be able to access, evaluate, and integrate personal and external resources, such as interests, research, and cultural experiences, to inform the creation of original digital artworks. Prof.MA:Cn10b Students will be able to explain and demonstrate the use of digital artworks to expand meaning and knowledge, and create cultural experiences, such as learning and sharing through local and global networks. Prof.MA:Cn11a Students will be able to demonstrate and explain how digital artworks and ideas relate to various contexts, purposes, and values, such as social trends, power, equality, and personal/cultural identity. Prof.MA:Cn11b Students will be able to critically evaluate and effectively interact with legal, technological, systemic, and vocational contexts of digital arts, considering civic values, digital literacy, social media, virtual environments, and digital identity.
