Student Learning Outcomes:

1st year - Junior Animation course - Focusing on 2 Dimensional Animation, Analog/Digital

Animation is a 2-dimensional illusion of movement by displaying a series of images, each one slightly different from the last. This one-year introductory animation course is perfect foundation for Junior students and students will learn the basic skill set for how to produce the simple animation, along with the hand-drawing techniques and the digital imaging, students will learn about storyboarding and various 2D animation techniques, focusing on 2-Dimensional animation projects like creation of pre-cinema optical illusion toys, such as Flipbook, Zoetrope, Phenakistoscope and more. Additionally, students will also learn an overview of the history of animation, as well as storytelling techniques and 2D character development. Students also will learn how to create sets, puppets and figures for stop motion animation or use experimental forms such as mixed-media animation. Students will constantly learn contemporary techniques and skills necessary for a career in analog and digital animation. Courses include the following topics:

  • History of Animation
  • Pre-Cinema Optical Animation toys - Zoetrope, Praxinoscope, Phenakistoscope, Flipbooks
  • 2D Animation, Analog/Digital
  • Stop Motion Animation _ paper and objects
  • 2D Character design to Puppet Development 
  • Stop Motion Puppet Animation
  • Storyboarding for Animation shorts
  • Animation short production
