MVHS Library Databases


General and Subject-Specific Databases

MVHS provides access to both general and subject-specific databases. These can be accessed by clicking Research Link from the Library homepage. MVHS Databases can be accessed directly when on campus (and with a password when you are off campus). 

SCCPL and MVPL Library Databases can be accessed with your MVHS issued library login/password.

Examples of General Databases

  • Academic Search Complete: Articles from scholarly journals, magazines, and newspapers. Covers all fields of knowledge.
  • eBook Central: Over 250,000 eBooks in all subject areas. Also, some textbooks are available here!!
  • U.S. Newsstream: National newspapers including: New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and Christian Science Monitor.
  • Opposing Viewpoints: Background information on controversial subjects, from capital punishment to immigration to marijuana. Includes pro/con viewpoints, reference articles, interactive maps, infographics, and more.
  • Proquest: Milions of articles from more than 10,000 full-text scholarly journals.

Examples of Subject-Specific Databases

Subject databases can be very useful when researching a focused topic.

  • Calisphere: Themed Collections that explore California’s role in national and world history (from the University of California).
  • National Academies: Full-text of thousands of e-books published by the National Academies Press, as well as journals, news articles, and other publications focused on the sciences, engineering, and medicine.
  • Literature Online: Poetry, prose, drama, literary criticism, journal articles, audio, video
